When the flu recovery takes longer than anyone would ever expect, my weary mind tends to go on a quest for anything that could possibly speed up the healing process. Here's just a small glimpse at things and moments which helped me to remain cheerful during my extended stay in bed...

Sequined t-shirt from Dorothy Perkins...just another reason to be madly in love with sales!

Panna Cotta with Spiced Cherry Sauce:

300ml heavy whipping cream
250ml cold milk
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon powdered gelatin
1 vanilla pod (split, seeds scraped out)

Place all the ingredients into a pan and bring to a simmer. Stir until the gelatine has dissolved. Take the pan off the heat and remove the vanilla pod. Divide the mixture among four ramekins or cups and leave to cool. Place into the fridge for a couple of hours, or until set.

To serve, run a sharp knife around the edge of each Panna Cotta and unmold onto a serving plate. Drizzle with the cooled cherry sauce.

For the spiced cherry sauce:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
a pinch of cinnamon
50ml cherry liquer
1 cup frozen cherries

Place the sugar, water and a pinch of cinnamon into a pan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until all the water evaporates and the sugar turns into a golden caramel (no need to stir at this point!). Add the frozen cherries and a splash of cherry liquer. Let it all simmer for a few more minutes, so that the sauce can slightly thicken.

Whenever it sneakily creeps into your house, you're more than sure that the entire problem could have easily been avoided. Perhaps if you'd been wearing a thick woolen cardi along with your barely-there blouse, or if you had taken a bus instead of walking for hours on that rainy day... And why on earth did you even care to go out in the first place?! Well, whatever! Stop reproaching yourself and just come to terms with the most obvious fact: at this time of the year, everyone's meant to catch a flu...sooner or later! And yes, in some cases it might actually get you grounded for a couple of weeks... Just speaking from my experience!

Even though Christmas already belongs to the past, this doesn't necessarilly provide a reason for my holiday spirit to fall off. I've spent the entire week lounging around in my comfiest pajamas and actually, have no intention to change a thing about this "outfit" until the first day of 2012! So, before I'm ready to showcase the new combination du jour, here's a small selection of my best (I hope!) fashion moments sported throughout the passing year...

Very Merry

In case you're already tired of all the Christmas recipes on this blog, here's my solemn promise I won't be posting any of them until the next holiday season. Twelve months to go, right?! And in the meantime, have yourself a merry little...cupcake! Sorry, but these Gingerbread Reindeers are seriously too cute to pass up!

Gingerbread Reindeers:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large bowl whisk together all of the wet ingredients.
In another bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt, spices and cranberries.
Using a large spoon, gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ones until everything's combined. Make sure not to overmix, or you wil end up with a batch of stone-hard muffins!
Fill each muffin cup full with the batter, then place in the preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.

Orange & White Chocolate Frosting:

400g cream cheese
50g unsalted butter at room temperature
1 heaping tablespoon icing sugar (optional, if you like things on the sweeter side)
100g white chocolate, diced
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest

Start with melting the white chocolate in a double boiler. Allow it to cool slightly before using.
Beat the cream cheese, butter, orange zest, vanilla extract and sugar, just until there are no lumps visible. Add the melted chocolate and mix until fully incorporated.

There's quite an enormous amount of clothes in my closet I will always be profoundly in love with. But if one day the world was supposed to be hit by an asteroid and I was given a chance to save one item only, I'd just grab this plaid shirt without the slightest hesitation! Even though it's already been two years since I made it mine, I can't even think of our ways parting any time soon...

P.S. The combination of red jacket and a fur collar rings a bell with you? Well, I was wearing this outfit while shopping for Christmas gifts... Santa Claus in the making, wasn't I?

I'm really hoping for the forthcoming Christmas to be perfectly white, but the long range weather forecast has once again left me quite disillusioned...The terrible truth is that I can't even recall the very last time we experienced a decent snowfall at the end of December! And since this particular holiday season just doesn't feel right without white spots and snowmen all around the neighbourhood, I've decided to take a stab at recreating some wintery bits in the comfort of my own kitchen...

Honey Gingerbread Cookies:

2 1/2 (about 600g) cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cloves

2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

250g margarine or butter

200g muscovado sugar

7 tablespoons honey

For the Royal Icing check out Martha Stewart's recipe here!

Sift together the flour, baking soda, spices, and set aside.

In a saucepan, over medium heat, combine muscovado sugar, butter (or margarine) and honey. Stir to make sure the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved. Let the mixture cool a bit, then gradually work in the dry ingredients to form a soft dough.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/3 centimetre thickness. Cut out desired shapes. Transfer to parchment-lined baking sheets and bake in the preheated oven until edges are slightly browned (about 10-15 minutes). Let cool completely before decorating. And then... just work your magic all over them!!!

Just can't wait to decorate my Christmas tree with these cuties!

Having turned 26 earlier this year, I find it really embarrassing to confess that there's still no driving licence to be found in my wallet. I am therefore condemned to the regular use of public transport, with all of the fun features it's usually packed with. Bad breathers, weird guys trying to pick me up, old ladies and unbelievable stories of their lives...I'm pretty sure you've been there too! To be honest, all these disturbers had barely ever got on my nerves, until this past week when I was meant to run multiple errands for five days in a row. Needless to say, the entire experience was quite traumatic! Wearing some cozy outfits was actually the very least I could do for the sake of my comfort...

Starting Early

With December being just around the corner nothing could possibly stop me from switching all of my baking into traditional Christmas mode. Over the following weeks I'm going to make sure the entire house smells of the most scrumptious ingredients, originally assigned to everyone's favourite holiday! Poppy seeds, nuts, candied fruits... you all have been missed for a long time!

Poppy Seed Brioche Croissants:

1. Start with the recipe for a simple Brioche Dough which can be made the day ahead and chilled in the fridge overnight.

2. Prior to baking your croissants prepare a poppy seed filling:

1 cup milk

1/2 cup sugar (plus additional 2 tablespoons)

1 cup poppy seeds (ground in a coffee grinder)
1/3 cup candied orange peel (chopped into small bits)

1/3 cup raisins

1/3 cup chopped walnuts or almonds

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1 large egg
Heat all the ingredients (except for the egg) in a small saucepan and simmer until poppy seeds absorb the entire liquid. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Beat the egg and 2 tablespoons of sugar until thick and light in colour, then fold it into the cooled poppy seed mixture.

3. To assemble the croissants: cut dough into half and set one piece aside. Roll the first piece into a 30cm diameter circle. Using a sharp knife cut it into eight equal wedges. Spread each of them with a heaping tablespoon of poppy seed filling. Starting from the base of the wedge, roll each one up and curve into a crescent shape. Place them onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and cover with a plastic wrap. Let rise for about 20 minutes. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly, then brush with the icing of choice. Some toasted hazelnuts sprinkled on top are an absolute MUST in this case!

Therapy in baking

It's been a tough week with some unexpected news creeping out from the every corner of my otherwise boring existence. You know, just one of those weeks when a fancy outfit is seriously the very last thing on your mind... Baking, however, is a whole different story! The combination of eggs, flour and sugar has never failed to work wonders for my frazzled nerves...

Cream Cheese Tart with Caramelised Figs:

For the almond crust:

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/4 cup blanched slivered almond

1/4 tsp salt

9 tblsp unsalted butter

1 large egg yolk

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Sift together the flour,salt and powdered sugar; using a pastry cutter, two knives or fingers, blend the flour mixture and butter together until it all becomes crumbly. Stir in the egg yolk and knead a few times, so that the dough forms a smooth ball. Press it over bottom and up sides of a lightly buttered and floured pie pan in an even layer. Chill the prepared shell for at least 30 minutes.

Once chilled sufficiently, prick shell all over with a fork, line with aluminium foil and fill with some pie weights. Bake in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes, then remove weights and bake additional 15 minutes, or until pastry becomes golden.

For the filling:

2 cups cream cheese

2 whole eggs

1 large egg yolk

1/2 cup granulated sugar

Place all the ingredients in bowl of your electric mixer and beat on medium speed until smooth. Pour filling into prepared tart shell and bake until slightly puffed along edges and just set in center. Transfer to a rack and let cool completely.

For the caramelised figs:

4 tbsp water (or even some red wine!)

4 tbsp granulated sugar with a pinch of ground cinnamon

5-6 fresh figs, cut into wedges or slices

Place the water, sugar and sliced figs into a small pan over a medium heat and cook together for about five minutes, or until the figs are caramelised in the syrup. Arrange them on top of your tart and serve immediately!

P.S. You can use this recipe to prepare one full-size tart or four individual tartlets... Either way, it's super yummy!

The amazing Indian summer we're currently being blessed with makes everyone pray for it to stick around forever. I'm pretty sure that without the constant noise of walnuts crashing to the ground, the transistion into fall would have passed completely unnoticed. Owing to the endlessly blue skies and temperatures in the mid-twenties, I have even managed to increase the longevity of my fading tan! If I was to sum up my attitude towards jewellery in just one sentence, it would be the well-known rule of "less is more". I am of course thrilled by the latest idea of heavily layered chains and bangles whenever I see other girls giving it a successful try. But on most occassions, such a rock'n'roll-ish kind of styling doesn't seem to correspond with my rather understated outfits. What's more, all I ever need to feel perfectly accessorized is just a short pendant! And since this minimalistic approach keeps me on the constant hunt for simple, yet interesting designs, I was more than happy to receive a couple of gifts from KALEE, an amazing jewellery brand. The Ultimate Mood Boosters

At the start of almost every Autumn I find myself weeping over a loss of my beloved season. However, sooner or later, I'm usually lucky enough to come across a dessert recipe which is guaranteed to uplift even the most despairing soul. Take these scrumptious Cream-Filled Rolls for example... Wouldn't you feel instantly cheered up if given a chance to bite into a crisp and buttery flavored pastry packed with loads of fluffy whipped cream? Well, I thought so!

Cream-Filled Pastry Rolls
Pastry:
2 1/2 cups flour
200g butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
1 cup sour cream
Egg Wash:
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk

To prepare the pastry, start by sifting all of the dry ingredients into a large bowl. Using a knife or a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles really coarse breadcrumbs. Add just enough sour cream (about 1 cup) and knead a couple of times so that the dough comes together. Gather it into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least two hours. After the dough has chilled sufficiently, remove it from the fridge and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry into a large rectangle, then cut into strips 2-3 centimetres wide and about 25 centimetres long. Wrap the dough strips around lightly buttered metal tubes. Brush one side of each prepared roll with the eggwash and sprinkle with some granulated sugar. Bake the rolls in a preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until they are golden in colour. Let them cool completely. If you happen to be crazy about chocolate, dip the ends of your baked pastries in some melted chocolate before filling them with whipped cream.

Filling:
2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Simply beat all the ingredients until stiff peaks form.

On a day of clear blue skies and smoking hot temperatures it is barely possible to find a decent photoshoot spot without people interfering while pictures of you are being taken. In order to avoid all those curious glances, I have yet again decided to take advantage of our beautiful garden which gets particularly drenched in sunshine throughout the summer months. Even my dad said I'd be crazy to leave it in favour of some dark and crowded park alleys...

The polka-dot blouse I'm wearing for this post is another cute gift from WholeSale-Dress (the other one seen here). Actually, it works super well within so many outfits that I couldn't really decide which one should be shared on here! More coming in the near future...

Hello, my name is Aga and I've been addicted to all kind of berries for last several months... But how can I possibly be blamed for being so fond of these sweet and juicy nibbles?! Not only are they packed with some pretty divine flavours, but also get easily incorporated in just about every meal, as proven by the fantastic dinner recipe below...

Very Berry Pancake Ribbons

1 cup flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons oil
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
1tsp. vanilla extract

To serve:
*Icing sugar
*Softly whipped cream or plain yogurt of your choice
*Fresh Berries, and I mean lots of them...

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until smooth. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium heat. Pour the batter onto the pan using just enough to cover the whole surface with a thin film. Cook for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is golden, then loosen with a spatula and turn to cook the other side. Once you've used all of the batter, roll your crepes in a cylinder and cut into ribbons of desired width. Divide between plates. Serve with spoonfuls of cream (or yogurt), berries and some icing sugar sprinkled on top.

Breakfast is the only meal I have never dared to skip in my entire life. Good girl? Well, I've always been! But seriously, following the healthy path isn't really much of a struggle if you can stick to just one simple rule: plan your morning feast in advance, and make sure it consists of ingredients that will have you wiggling with excitement the night before! My personal favourites? Just about anything, as long as I get an illusion of having a fancy dessert and this super-crunchy Granola never fails to look and taste like one...

Home-made Granola Recipe:
3 cups oats
1/2 cup white wheat flour
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup or more coarsely chopped almonds
1 cup brown sugar

100g butter
1/3 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 180°C. In a large mixing bowl combine the oats, flour, coconut and almonds. Set aside. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and water and heat until the butter has melted and the mixture is bubbly. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture together until smooth, and then stir in the salt, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour mixture over the oats mixture and stir well to coat. Let stand for about 10 minutes.

Spread mixture on a large baking sheet, separating it into irregular clumps with your fingers,and leaving enough space between them for the hot air to circulate. Slide it into the middle of the oven and bake until the top is golden brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and stir to break up the mixture into medium sized clumps. Return to the oven and bake again for 15 minutes before stirring again. Bake for another 15 minutes or until the granola is golden brown and completely dry — this might take up to 1 hour. Cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

In my kitchen, each season is strongly attached to different recipes and flavours, depending on the array of ingredients available at a particular time of the year. There is a Carrot Cake in late November, when regional fruits are already long gone, and a traditional Greek Moussaka, made with a bumper crop of my homegrown aubergines and tomatoes...Yes, I really can go on for hours! But when it comes to early summer, the choice couldn't be more obvious than this elegant Strawberry Charlotte. With its light as a feather interior full of freshly puréed strawberries, it seems like the only right accompaniment to those sweet and dreamy days...

Strawberry Charlotte Recipe:

- 2 cups of very strong mint tea

- Ladyfingers biscuits

- 500 grams strawberries (plus a few more for decoration)

- juice of one lemon

- 150 grams powdered sugar

- 7 grams gelatin

- 2 cups heavy whipping cream

- 50 grams powdered sugar

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Line bottom and sides of 9" (21cm) springform pan with ladyfingers dipped in a warm mint tea. Chill in the refrigerator for about two hours.

In a food processor, puree strawberries with 150 grams of powdered sugar and lemon juice.Warm it up slightly and add gelatin dissolved in a small amount of hot water. Stir well to combine. Let cool, then chill in the refrigerator until it begins to set.

In a large mixing bowl whip cream with the remaining amount of sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks begin to form. Gently fold in cooled strawberry puree, so that there are still visible streaks of it in the cream. Spoon into ladyfinger-lined pan and smooth with spatula. Top with some fresh strawberries and mint leaves. You can also brush top of the cake with some strawberry gelatin.... just to make things prettier!

I always try my best so that this blog doesn't turn into a place for my grumbling about things I've somehow miserably failed at. Whatever happens, I'm always well aware of other people whose problems might be twice as big as mine. Yet after five days full of little disasters, I'm ready to admit that the only thing which didn't go wrong lately was my very first attempt at home-made peanut butter... Luckily, the long-awaited weekend came along with some pretty fantastic weather, giving me opportunity to play with purchases I'd kept hidden at the bottom of my wardrobe since February. And that was exactly what I needed to uplift my mood within just a couple of minutes!

The season for berries is still months away from here, but thanks to international shipping we can already enjoy some of those luscious fruits delivered fresh from countries with a better climate... So whenever I score at least a tiny basket from our local grocer, it is hardly possible for me not to take advantage of it. The easier the recipe, the better, and this flavourful Fruit Cake definitely does fall into such a category!

Dough:

5 eggs, slightly beaten

100g fresh yeast, cut into small cubes (yes, I'm talking about that weird, solid substance...)

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 cup oil

1 cup milk (mixed with a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract)

5 cups all-purppose flour

1 cup berries (or any other fruits you like!)

Layer all the ingredients in a large bowl in order they've been listed. Do not stir them at this point, I repeat, do not stir! Cover with a plastic wrap and let sit for three hours at room temperature. During this time, apart from the yeast becoming slightly foamy, nothing spectacular is supposed to happen. Once you've waited long enough, use a wooden spoon to mix everything thoroughly until there are no lumps visible. Transfer the prepared dough to a large greased and dusted baking pan. Sprinkle with berries (or other fruits of your choice) and some streussel. Bake until slightly golden on top and toothpick inserted comes out clean. Oh... and enjoy the most mouth-watering smell which will surely flow through your house while the cake's in the oven...

Streusel:

1 cup flour

1 cup granulated white sugar

1/2 cup melted and cooled butter

Just toss all the ingredients with a spoon until large clumps form.

Mastering the Art of French Baking

Whether it's my personal misconception or a scientificaly proven fact, I believe that you can't really call yourself a skilled baker unless you give a try to some risky recipes. As we all know, there's an amazing variety of them in French cuisine. A soufflé which tends to go totally flat, brioche buns harder than stone, almond macarons quite often far from perfection both in their flavour and shape... just take your pick! I did last Saturday, and miraculously managed to achieve something which was my idea of true culinary success! And just between us, it actually was my second stab at these... I'm happy to announce that Phil the Groundhog was absolutely right as for the quick end to this terrible winter. His predictions have been just officialy confirmed by one of my cats. This is seriously the one and only sign I need to believe that spring is just around the corner!

Tastes like summer holiday!

And I'm talking about one of those hot and steamy locations, with coconut and mango trees all around, somewhere far away from our incredibly cold Europe! Since the recipe is my very own creation, I had to come up with a name which would somehow recapture all of the unique flavours this dessert is packed with. How about.... Tropical Island Sandwiches?

For the sponge cake:

6 eggs

6 tbsp of flour

6 tbsp of sugar

1/2 tsp of baking powder

Beat the egg whites with sugar until soft peaks form. Add the egg yolks, one by one, beating well after each addition. Now sift in the flour-baking powder mixture and beat just until incorporated. Bake in a square pan lined with a parchment paper, until slightly golden on top. Once the sponge cake has cooled sufficiently, cut out an even number of slices with a round cookie cutter ( or be creative and use any other shape! Hmm.. some heart-shaped little things for Valentine's Day? Why not!).

For the vanilla buttercream:

about 1 1/2 cup of milk

1 package instant vanilla pudding

200 grams of butter

3tbsp of powdered sugar

Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package instructions, using, however, the amount of milk stated in my recipe. Cover with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming, and let cool to room temperature. Beat the butter with powdered sugar to make it light and fluffy, then start adding the cooled pudding by teaspoons, mixing well until all of it is incorporated into the butter and sugar mixture.

To assemble: spread one of the cake slices with some buttercream, and then place the other one on top, pressing gently. Roll sides of your sandwiches in some shredded coconut. Place mounds of whipping cream on top of each cake. Garnish with some chopped tropical fruits (mango, papaya, all these will do!) and large coconut flakes. Refrigerate for a while before serving.

Tip: It's good to brush the slices with some Rum or Malibu for an extra flavour!

It's freezing cold and white all over, but really, what could be a better start to the most festive month of the year? I'd be a nasty liar if I said that all those amazing camel hues didn't cause a stir in my heart and mind. Honestly, the more I see them, the deeper my love grows! All my friends know that in terms of cooking, I'll go to extremes in order to pamper my family, even if it takes standing in the kitchen for hours, or waking up at dawn when the entire house is still sound asleep. No wonder I've never really been scared of recipes with preparation time estimated at two days, as it is in case of Cinnamon Buns (recipe). Actually, it's not necessary to refrigerate these overnight before baking, though from what I've learnt, not only does it improve the taste, but also gives me an opportunity to spoil my loved ones in the morning. Hmm.. not to mention that me and my sweet tooth really enjoy having straight-from-the-oven treats with a cup of coffee for breakfast...

There's a common belief among men that when it comes to buying, only a purchase of another clothing item can sufficiently feed woman's appetite. Wrong, or at least this can't be applied to me... In my case, shopping for kitchen utensils is just as pleasurable as the moment when I become an owner of a new dress. So even if this may seem unbelievable, I seriously felt like the luckiest girl in the world having found these ceramic dishes.Their little lids make it impossible for the content to become cold too quickly, so I just can't think of a better alternative to my old soup bowls! And since using them in the oven is not a problem, I can finally prepare individual portions of my favourite Chicken Pot Pie (recipe)!

Yesterday's shopping put me in kind of mood people usually get at the beginning of December. You see, I almost came back home with a bag full of... How to bake yourself up a perfect autumn evening? As far as I'm concerned, all you need are three basic ingredients: one fluffy blanket, some fashion magazines, and most of all, a plateful of crispy little pastries which disappear as quickly as they can be made.

2 cups flour
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
Cream cheese
Apple chunks (my favourite fall option!), plum halves, strawberries, Nutella... some ricotta and spinach?! Yes, I'm serious! No sugar addition allows you to be pretty creative when it comes to filling these tiny kites!

Cut the butter into small pieces and blend into the flour using two knives, so that the mixture resembles really coarse crumbs. Now add just enough cream cheese to prepare a soft, pliable dough. Make sure not to knead it for too long, as it might ruin the flaky texture! Cover with a plastic wrap and let rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Roll out dough thinly on a lightly floured surface and cut into squares. Place filling in the centre and fold in the corners. Place on a baking sheet and bake until slightly golden. The sweet version can either be dusted with confectioner's sugar or brushed with an icing of choice.

Some may think that fashion blogging doesn't bring any major changes to our lives, though I'm sure that in many cases it's quite on the contrary. Let's take a drastic increase of purchases we make every month. Our willingness to remain stylish takes effect in a transformation into Victoria Beckham, who, as we all know, never wears anything twice. And what about the attention lavished on us whenever we happen to wear something totally on trend, yet unusual? Just the other day I went to the movies and had all eyes on my new pair of wedges!
On the other hand, shouldn't these two things that I've listed be also considered as the most important reasons for which running a personal style blog is so badly addictive? Definitely!

Over the years I've learnt how to be braver with my clothing colour choices. After all, there used to be times when each piece of garment I owned was either brown or beige, as if I was on a constant safari trip! Now I'm no longer reluctant to inject some prints or bright accents into my personal couture nearly all year round. With one exception... Whenever days start to become shorter, I can't help stocking up on items in one particular colour. Since there's nothing I can actually do about the change of season, let me at least wave goodbye to summer with this luscious Fruit Tart (the recipe here)...

A week ago I was determined to keep my holiday free from anything related to fashion. Yet with the latest issue of Vogue in my bag and the World Fashion channel on the telly I couldn't really escape a daily dose of some lovely pieces. I successfully managed to stick to the rule only in terms of my personal dressing up... Thanks to the cold and windy weather I had to wear all those layers which were anything but stylish!

Not really stylish, but at least feeling warm...

Going Green

I've never really been type of a crazy vegetarian, and to be perfectly honest, there are weeks when my diet becomes quite poor in fruits and vegetables... Also, most of the salads I prepare usually contain so much more than just a couple of letucce leaves, thus can easily be served as a main course dish. The Summer Chicken Salad adapted from Jo Pratt's recipe seems like the best example. It's full of delicious ingredients which make for a really hearty dinner!

3 chicken breast halves ( cut'em into cubes or small slices and fry in some olive oil until cooked through and slightly browned)

2 bags of prepared watercress
750g baby potatoes
250g frozen peas, defrosted
2 ripe avocados, peeled, halved and sliced
1 bunch of chives, cut into approx 1 cm sticks

For the Dressing:
2tsp Moutarde a L'Ancienne (French Grained mustard)
1tbsp runny honey
1 small garlic clove, crushed
Juice of 1 lemon
6tbsp extra virgin olive oil
A pinch of salt & pepper

To make the dressing, simply whisk all the ingredients together.
For the salad, boil the potatoes until tender and cut into quarters. Place them in a large bowl ,along with the prepared chicken pieces ,and stir in the half of the dressing. Leave for a few minutes for the flavours to absorb. Place the watercress on the plate, then scatter the chicken, potatoes, peas, avocado and chives over the top. Drizzle with the remaining dressing and serve straight away.

Very Berry Breakfast

Even though days are still quite hot, I already can sense a whiff of Eau De Autumn in the air, which doesn't make me feel good at all... I do my best to beat the feeling by eating an enormous amount of seasonal fruits that soon will be gone again. Some of them, including a variety of berries, can be perfectly incorporated in delicious breakfasts, like this lovely Trifle pictured below. The actual recipe doesn't really exist, since you can layer in a glass whatever suits your taste! I usually opt for blueberries, raspberries, chopped nectarines, some crunchy granola and vanilla yoghurt. It's fruity, it's tasty, and also happens to be pretty healthy! Ahem...yes, the last sentence looks as if it was taken from some kind of an advert... but it wasn't!

In my case, being on holiday doesn't necessarily mean having a less busy schedule, as there are still many important things I have to take care of daily, like:
-trying as many new recipes as I can (two different cakes in one evening, why not!)
-planning my fall/winter wardrobe
-trying to convince my cats that those little birds they catch in our garden are not at all tasty
-shopping for weird cooking utensils (Dear Jamie Oliver, why is your kitchen gear so bloody expensive?!)
All these activities, despite their great importance (right...?) rarely require me to dress up in a glamorous way. But still, I like to keep my outfits slightly individual by wearing some cute accessories. Going nuts about pecans

There are some desserts that should be forbidden, since just thinking of them makes you get fatter. Sea Turtle Brownies (recipe here!) definitely do fall into that category with their outrageous amount of chocolate and pecans which, in my opinion, are the best nuts in the world! To be honest, I've cut down on preparing those brownies to just once a year, as it is barely possible for me not to finish a whole batch!
As for the previous post, I just wasn't satisfied with the quality of the pics and my outfit shown in them, so it had to go. There are days when woman shouldn't have her pictures taken, know what I mean...

Yes, there really is some sea salt sprinkled on top... Don't say NO WAY until you try it!

If you're feeling adventurous, just like I felt a couple of days ago, then I'd strongly recommend that you try the recipe for Lavender Cookies! At first, their flavour might feel like the weirdest thing you've ever tasted...But after a couple of bites you'll find youself reaching for another one, and another one, and then... Hmm.. must be something witchy about them, since they transform people into Cookie Monsters so easily!

Lavender Cookies

100g caster sugar (about 4 1/2 tablespoons)
175g unsalted butter, at room temperature
225g all purpose flour
2 teaspoon fresh lavender flowers and leaves, chopped

Cream sugar and butter with a whisk. Add flour and lavender. Mix until combined. Form into a log of desired width. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour. Slice into desired thickness and bake for 12-15 minutes if small, or 15-20 minutes if larger.

Although cooking is definitely one of my biggest passions, as the summer gets closer, I slowly begin moving into the area of no-fuss dinners. What could be a better example than flour tortillas that go perfectly with just about anything? I usually serve mine with some fresh vegetables (just put in whatever makes your taste buds happy!), fried chicken strips and three-minute garlic sauce which, by the way, becomes everyone's favourite once they try it!

Three-minute Garlic Sauce:
A large pot of Greek Yoghurt
2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
2-3 minced garlic gloves
A few drops of lemon juice
Salt and sugar (to taste)
Just beat all the ingredients well until smooth! No brainer, isn't it?!
